About Sawai Mansingh Stadium

    The iconic Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan is the home ground of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2008 and is one of the most renowned cricket stadiums in India. It has been named after Sawai Man Singh II, the former Maharaja of the state of Jaipur.

    The Sawai Mansingh Stadium has a seating capacity of nearly 24,000. Over the years, it has witnessed some memorable moments in Indian cricket history. The Sawai Mansingh Stadium, also known as the Jaipur Cricket Stadium, made its international debut on October 2, 1983, by hosting an India vs Pakistan ODI match, which India won by four wickets.

    International cricket matches at Sawai Mansingh Stadium

    The Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur hosted just one Test match, between India and Pakistan, in February 1987. The match ended in a draw. The then Pakistan President Gen Zia ul Haq was in attendance for this match as part of his ‘Cricket for Peace’ initiative. Apart from that, the venue has hosted 19 ODIs, including two World Cup matches in 1987 and 1996 and six Champions Trophy matches in 2006. The last ODI that was played here was between India and Australia in October 2013. India won the high-scoring encounter by nine wickets, scoring 362/1 in the chase, the highest total in an ODI played here. India have won eight of their 12 matches played at the SMS Stadium Jaipur. The only T20 International that was played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium was between India and New Zealand in November 2021, which India won by five wickets.

If you are travelling by bus, the nearest bus stops are Rambagh Circle or Nagar Nigam Lal Kothi. For those travelling by train, the nearest railway stations are Gandhinagar and Bais Godam. The SMS stadium is easily accessible from Jaipur Junction railway station too. Amar Jawan Jyoti, the famous monument to commemorate the soldiers and martyrs from Jaipur who served India during wartime and Shaheed Smarak are some of the famous landmarks near the Rajasthan Royals’ home ground.
