With an increasing demand of mystery bowlers in T20 cricket, Coorg-born Cariappa rose through the ranks in Karnataka cricket and made it to the IPL in 2015 after being bought by KKR. He went on to play for Punjab thereafter, but a consistent run in a season is something that has evaded him to date.A Royal since 2021, Cariappa came back home after being bought at the mega auction this year. He strives to keep developing new variations to meet the demands of the IPL. Cariappa is a useful addition to an already strong contingent of wrist spinners, Ashwin and Chahal.
