Jaydev Unadkat was the first player to be bought and retained by the Rajasthan Royals in the 2019 IPL auctions. Belonging to a lineage of the modern-day cricketers, who have an IPL contract before receiving a Ranji cap, Unadkat’s recent domestic performances made him a favourite at the IPL 2019 auctions.
Despite being absent from the international scene, Unadkat’s consistent performances for Saurashtra in the Indian domestic circuit have made him a top pick at IPL auctions. In this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy, he was the top wicket-taker for his team, and the third best fast bowler as he finished with 16 wickets off 8 matches at an economy of 4.27 and a best of 4 for 23. In the ongoing Ranji Trophy, Unadkat has claimed 7 wickets in 2 matches and was the man-of-the-match against Chattisgarh where he took 7 wickets for 86 runs.
Following a strong domestic season, the Royals fans will be hoping that Unadkat will better or at least replicate his marque performance from the 2017 season, where he was the second highest wicket-taker with 24 wickets in 12 matches at an economy of 7.02 and a best of 5/30.
