In a moment that stitched the past and the future of the Indian Premier League together, Yusuf Pathan extended a heartfelt congratulations to 14-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who shattered his long-standing record for the fastest IPL century by an Indian and did so while donning the same Rajasthan Royals jersey.
Pathan, whose breathtaking 37-ball ton against Mumbai Indians in 2010 had remained unbeaten for 15 years, witnessed his mark fall to the young prodigy on Monday night at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Sooryavanshi, in only his third IPL appearance, hammered a sensational 101 off just 38 balls against Gujarat Titans, bringing up his century in just 35 deliveries - the fastest ever by an Indian in IPL history and the second-fastest overall, behind Chris Gayle’s legendary 30-ball century.
The parallels made the moment even sweeter for Pathan, who took to social media to laud the teenager’s heroics.
"Many congratulations to young #VaibhavSooryavanshi for breaking my record of the fastest IPL hundred by an Indian! Even more special to see it happen while playing for Rajasthan Royals, just like I did. There’s truly something magical about this franchise for youngsters. Long way to go, champ!" Pathan wrote.

Chasing a towering target, Sooryavanshi unleashed an onslaught almost immediately, smashing Mohammed Siraj for a colossal six off only his second ball.
The rampage only intensified as the match progressed and the teenager, 14 years and 32 days old, left a trail of broken records in his wake before finally falling for 101 off just 38 balls.
His magical innings featured 11 massive sixes and seven fours, with boundaries accounting for almost 93 per cent of his runs in the match.

Be it Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ishant Sharma, Rashid Khan, Washington Sundar or GT debutant Karim Janat, the teenager spared no one. He took Ishant for 26 in one over and Janat for 30 in another.
“I don't see the name of the bowler, I just see the ball and play, he told the broadcaster after the match,” Sooryavanshi said after the match.
Reaching the triple figure mark with a six of Rahid Khan also made him not only the youngest centurion in IPL history, but across all T20 cricket.
“It is a very good feeling, it is my first 100 in the IPL and in the third innings. I had been practising for the IPL for the last three-four months and the results are now showing,” the teenager noted.
Sooryavanshi’s stunning innings rekindled memories of Pathan’s own fearless, swashbuckling style - a fitting reminder of Rajasthan Royals' enduring legacy of unearthing and empowering young and raw talent.
For fans of the Royals - and for Indian cricket - it was a glimpse of a future star.
It was not only Pathan who came out to congratulate the youngster on his glorious feat. The entire cricketing fraternity also raised a toast to the 14-year-old’s fearless knock that lit up Jaipur on Monday.
Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar wrote, “Vaibhav's fearless approach, bat speed, picking the length early, and transferring the energy behind the ball was the recipe behind a fabulous innings. End result: 101 runs off 38 balls. Well played!"
