Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has joined the Mumbai cricket team camp ahead of the next round of Ranji Trophy 2024-25 matches and attended a batting stint in the open nets session at the Bandra Kurla Complex Ground on Wednesday morning.

A member of the Rajasthan Royals IPL 2025 team, Jaiswal has been one of India’s best performers on the international circuit over the last year.

The 23-year-old Jaiswal was India’s leading run-scorer in the recently-concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy Australia vs India Test series after accumulating 391 runs in five matches at an average of 43.44.

He scored a stunning 161 in the opening Test of the series in Perth to help India win the match. Jaiswal also scored two half-centuries in the Melbourne Test.

The year 2024, in fact, was a breakthrough one for the talented southpaw on the international stage as he smashed 1478 runs at an average of 54.74 and a strike rate of close to 70.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s highest score of the year came in the third Test of a five-match series against England in Rajkot where he scored an unbeaten 214 to help India win the match.

He struck 36 sixes in Tests in 2024 and created a new world record for the most maximums in red-ball cricket in a calendar year.

Fourth on the ICC Test batting rankings, Jaiswal was also named in Cricket Australia’s best Test team of 2024.

He will be looking to continue his fine form in the upcoming round of Ranji Trophy matches with Mumbai, should he be selected.

Defending champions Mumbai, the most successful Ranji Trophy team with 42 titles, are currently third in Elite Group A of the ongoing campaign. They will face Jammu & Kashmir in their next outing starting on January 23.

Jaiswal’s Ranji Trophy numbers also make for fine reading. He scored 498 runs in three matches at an average of 83 in 2022 and 315 runs in five matches at an average of 45 in 2023.
