Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named in the Mumbai cricket squad for their next Ranji Trophy 2024-25 fixture against Jammu & Kashmir on January 23.
Part of the Rajasthan Royals team for IPL 2025, Jaiswal joined the Mumbai cricket team camp ahead of their next round of Ranji Trophy matches last week and he is now in contention to feature in the upcoming clash against Jammu & Kashmir.
The 23-year-old Jaiswal received his maiden ODI call-up for India recently after being named in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the preceding three-match series vs England.
Jaiswal was in fantastic form last year and was India’s top run-scorer in Tests, scoring 1478 runs at an average of 54.74 and a strike rate of nearly 70.
His highest score last year came in the third Test of a five-match series against England in Rajkot where he scored an unbeaten 214 to guide India to a win.
Fourth in the ICC men’s Test batting rankings and named in Cricket Australia’s best Test team of 2024, Jaiswal hit 36 sixes in red ball cricket in 2024 - a new world record for the most maximums in the format in a single calendar year.
He is in line to represent Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy for the first time since 2022-23 season, in which he accumulated 315 runs in five matches at an average of 45.
The stylish opener also made 498 runs in three Ranji Trophy matches at an average of 83 for Mumbai in 2021-22.
Defending champions Mumbai are currently third in Elite Group A of the ongoing Ranji Trophy campaign. They are also the most successful team in Ranji Trophy history with 42 titles.
Meanwhile, Royals captain Sanju Samson will miss Kerala’s sixth-round Ranji Trophy clash against Madhya Pradesh, also starting on January 23.
Samson is part of the India squad for the five-match T20I series against England. The first of the five matches will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22.
