In a fearless opening act of intent, Yashasvi Jaiswal launched Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar over the leg-side boundary for six off the very first ball in the Rajasthan Royals innings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.

With that stroke, Jaiswal also became the first player to smash a first-ball six in an IPL match on three separate occasions. No other batter has achieved the feat more than once.

In fact, only eight players have managed to start off their teams’ innings with a maximum in the IPL to date.

The select club of players include Naman Ojha, Mayank Agarwal, Sunil Narine, Virat Kohli, Robin Uthappa, Phil Salt and Priyansh Arya.

Chasing 206 to win, Yashasvi Jaiswal, with a knock of 49 off 18 balls, laid a solid platform for the Rajasthan Royals against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. His innings included seven fours and three sixes.

Jaiswal is also the Rajasthan Royals’ top scorer this season. He has smashed 356 runs from nine matches at an average of close to 40. He has also scored four half-centuries this season.

The opener has been largely responsible for the Royals’ explosive starts in IPL 2025. No team has scored more sixes in the powerplay than Rajasthan Royals till now.

Last year, Yashasvi Jaiswal hit 36 sixes in Test cricket, setting a new world record for the most sixes in a calendar year. He surpassed the previous record held by Brendon McCullum, who had 33 sixes in 2014.
