Consistent performances throughout the last year earned Yashasvi Jaiswal a place in the ICC Men's Test Team of the Year 2024, as announced by the International Cricket Council on Friday.

The global governing body for the sport named 11 Test cricketers in its team who impressed across the calendar year with the bat, the ball or their all-round skills.

The 22-year-old Jaiswal, retained by the Rajasthan Royals for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, was named in the ICC’s team after scoring 1478 runs in the year.

Scoring at an average of 54.74 and a strike rate of almost 70, Jaiswal hit 36 sixes in 2024, a new world record for a calendar year.

His tally of 1478 runs in a year is the second most by an Indian and the most by an Indian opener. He ended the year as the second-highest scorer behind England’s Joe Root, who scored 1556 runs from 17 matches.

Jaiswal, who played 15 Test matches in 2024, hit nine 50s and three centuries, including two double tons against England in February and a 161 against Australia in Perth.

World No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah and top-ranked all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja were also named in the team.

Bumrah played 13 Tests in 2024 and picked up 71 wickets - the most by any bowler last year. Ravindra Jadeja ended 2024 with 48 wickets and 527 runs from 12 matches.

Bumrah has also been nominated for two other ICC awards - the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Men’s Cricketer of the Year and the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year. The results of these two awards will be announced later.

The ICC Test team of the year included players from India, Australia, New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka. Australia’s Pat Cummins was named captain of the Test team.
