Yashasvi Jaiswal was named in Cricket Australia’s best Test team of 2024 after scoring 1478 runs in the year and breaking several records.
Cricket Australia named 11 outstanding Test cricketers in the team who impressed across the calendar year with the bat, the ball or their all-round exploits.
The 22-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal batted fearlessly throughout the year, scoring at an average of 54.74 and a strike rate of almost 70. He hit 36 sixes in 2024, a new world record for a calendar year.
His tally of 1478 runs in a year is the second most by an Indian batter and the most by an Indian opener. The previous record of 1462 for the most runs by an Indian opener was set by Virender Sehwag in 2008.
Jaiswal, retained by the Rajasthan Royals for the IPL 2025 season, played 15 Test matches this year, hitting nine 50s and three centuries, including two double tons against England in February and a 161 against Australia in Perth.
Fast bowling ace Jasprit Bumrah, who led India to a famous 295-run victory against Australia in Perth on his Test captaincy debut, was named captain of the Test team.
Joe Root, Rachin Ravindra, Kamindu Mendis and Josh Hazlewood also made it to the team represented by players from five countries. Alex Carey was named the wicket-taker.
Both Bumrah and Jaiswal will be next seen in action in the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Sydney from January 3.
