Shimron Hetmyer returned to the West Indies ODI team for the three-match series against England starting on October 31.

Cricket West Indies included Hetmyer in the 15-member squad - to be led by Shai Hope - that will host England. Incidentally, Hetmyer, who represents Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, last played an ODI for the West Indies cricket team against the same opponents in December 2023.

The England white-ball series starts off with the ODI leg with the first match to be played at Sir Vivian Richard Stadium in North Sound, Antigua on Thursday. The second ODI will also be hosted at the same venue on November 2.

The action shifts to the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados for the third and final ODI that is scheduled to be played on Wednesday, November 6. The England cricket team will also play a five-match T20 series against the West Indies from November 10.

Hetmyer, who missed the Sri Lanka white-ball tour due to personal reasons, will replace Alick Athanaze in the only change to the ODI team that played in the island nation earlier this month.

The 27-year-old Hetmyer, who made his ODI debut against New Zealand in December 2017, has accumulated 1515 runs from 53 matches for the Windies at an average of 32.23 and a strike rate of 104.55. He also has five hundreds and four fifties to his name in ODIs.

West Indies will step into the England white-ball series after identical 2-1 defeats in the T20 and ODI series in Sri Lanka. West Indies are currently 10th in ICC’s latest ODI team rankings list.

With only the top eight teams, apart from hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, being guaranteed automatic qualification to the 2027 ODI Cricket World Cup, West Indies will be keen to improve their showing in ODIs.

Meanwhile, England will be led by stand-in skipper Liam Livingstone in the ODI leg of the series after Jos Buttler was ruled out with his rehabilitation for the calf injury, which has kept him out of action since the T20 World Cup semi-finals in June.
