Sri Lankan leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga earned twin honours at the ICC Awards 2024 after being named in both the T20I (T20 Internationals) and ODI (One-Day International) teams of the year.

The winners of the ICC Awards were decided following a round of voting by the ICC Voting Academy, a panel of global media representatives and cricket fans from across the world.

Hasaranga, along with India’s Jasprit Bumrah, were the only men’s players to be named in the team of the year for two different formats at the ICC Awards 2024. Bumrah was named in ICC’s T20 and Test teams of the year.

This was the second time Hasaranga was named in both ICC Men’s T20 Team of the Year as well as ICC’s Men’s ODI Team of the Year. He was also a part of ICC’s ODI and T20 teams in 2021.

His inclusion in the ICC Men’s T20 Team of the Year 2024 is the third time he has been a part of the best 11 in the 20-over format in a calendar year, having also been included in the list in 2021 and 2022.

Set to represent Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2025, Wanindu Hasaranga picked up 38 wickets in 20 T20I matches at an economy of 7.11 in 2024. He was the third-highest wicket-taker in T20Is last year and on top of the list among full member nations.

He was just as effective in the 50-over format, picking up 26 scalps in 10 games at an average of 15.61 last year for Sri Lanka. He was the highest wicket-taker in ODI cricket last year.

Renowned for his tricky spin and ability to singlehandedly win matches for his team, Hasaranga recently became the fastest bowler to reach 300 wickets in T20 cricket.

In T20 cricket, Hasaranga has taken 301 wickets in 209 matches at an economy of 6.89. He has best bowling figures of 6/9 in the format and has taken three five-wicket hauls in the format.

In the IPL, Hasaranga has claimed 35 wickets in 26 matches at an economy of 8.13, including his best-ever IPL spell of 5/18 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022.
