Vaibhav Suryavanshi made a dream Indian Premier League debut for Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants in Jaipur on Saturday, becoming the youngest player in IPL history, at the age of 14 years and 23 days.

The talented teenager was included in the Royals’ IPL 2025 squad as an Impact Player and opened the batting with Yashasvi Jaiswal in place of Sanju Samson.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi got his IPL career off the mark in style, with a six off Shardul Thakur and went on to score a credible 34 off just 20 balls before being stumped by Rishabh Pant off an Aiden Markram delivery.

He hit three massive sixes and a couple of boundaries to enthral the home fans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

As he walked back to the pavilion after his dismissal, an emotional Vaibhav was seen wiping away tears—overwhelmed by the moment.

Samson, the Royals’ regular skipper, missed the match due to an abdominal injury he suffered while batting against Delhi Capitals in the Royals’ previous match on April 16.

Before Vaibhav, the record for the youngest player in the IPL belonged to Prayas Ray Barman.

Vaibhav’s debut at the tender age of 14 testifies to the Royals’ core philosophy of backing and nurturing talent, irrespective of age.

Riyan Parag, who is captaining the Royals against LSG in Sanju Samson’s absence, was previously the youngest player to play in the IPL for the Rajasthan Royals.

Having made his debut at the age of 17 years and 175 days in 2019, the Assam-born batter is also fourth in the all-time list.

Earlier this season, Parag became the youngest captain in Rajasthan Royals’ history and the fifth-youngest skipper in the IPL since its inception in 2008.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was also handed his IPL debut before he turned 18 and is now a key figure in the Royals line-up.
