Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest Indian cricket player to play List-A cricket after featuring for Bihar in their opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 against Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.

Aged 13 years and 269 days, Vaibhav Suryavanshi comfortably surpassed the previous record held by Ali Akbar, who made his List A debut for Vidarbha in the 1999-2000 season when he was 14 years and 51 days old.

This was just the latest entry in Vaibhav’s archive of records in Indian cricket. Last month, the teenage batting prodigy became the youngest player in history to earn an Indian Premier League contract after being signed by Rajasthan Royals at the IPL 2025 auction.

Earlier this year, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest Indian player to play first-class cricket in the modern era after making his Ranji Trophy debut for the Bihar cricket team against Mumbai in Patna.

Vaibhav is also the youngest player to represent India at the Under-19 level. The southpaw also holds the record for the fastest hundred ever recorded by an Indian in youth Tests and the second-fastest overall courtesy of his 58-ball ton against Australia at the Chepauk in September this year.

Earlier this month, Vaibhav also played a telling role in India’s run to the final in the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2024. He scored two crucial half-centuries in the tournament, including a match-winning 36-ball 67 against Sri Lanka in the semis.

In comparison, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s List A debut turned out to be a rather forgetful one as he was dismissed for just four runs as Bihar lost to MP by six wickets at the NFC Cricket Ground in Hyderabad.

The youngster, however, will look to impress when Bihar takes on Tripura in their next match on Monday.
