Rajasthan Royals will see 10 of their players at the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 which starts on June 1 in the United States and the Caribbean.
Representing the Royals will be four Indians, and two each from the West Indies and South Africa. England and New Zealand complete the list with a player each in both teams. Of the 10, two are travelling reserves.
Royals skipper Sanju Samson is one of the two wicket-keepers in the 15-member Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, having made the team after a stellar Indian Premier League season. While Samson has played 25 T20Is, this will be his first appearance in the T20 World Cup.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, at 22 years, is the youngest member of the squad and will also be his maiden appearance in the marquee event. The experienced Yuzvendra Chahal, meanwhile, will be playing in his second T20 World Cup. He is the highest wicket-taker for India in T20Is with 96 scalps from 80 games. Avesh Khan is in the reserves.
India will open their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland in New York on June 5 before facing arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9 at the same venue. Canada and the USA are the other teams in Group A.
Jos Buttler will be at the helm for a second time as England look to create history by becoming the only team to defend the T20 World Cup title. Buttler played a key role in England’s victorious campaign in 2022 top-scoring for the team. He is also the only Englishman with over 3,000 runs in T20I cricket.
England will go against neighbours Scotland on June 4 at Bridgetown first before meeting arch-rivals Australia on June 8 at the same ground. Namibia and Oman round off Group B.
Left-arm pacer Trent Boult will represent New Zealand for a fifth time in the T20 World Cup having made his T20I debut in 2013. The veteran pacer has turned up for the Kiwis in 57 T20I matches picking up 74 wickets at an impressive average of 23.24 and a strike rate of 17.40.
Boult played a key role in the Black Caps’ first T20 World Cup final appearance in 2021 with 13 wickets. New Zealand are placed in Group C and start their campaign against Afghanistan on June 8 at Providence.
Rovman Powell is the captain of co-hosts West Indies. Shimron Hetmyer is the second Royals player to be part of the West Indies T20 World Cup squad. The two are experienced campaigners on the international stage.
West Indies play Papua New Guinea (PNG) in their first match at Providence on June 2. The two-time T20 World Cup winners are placed in Group C with New Zealand, Afghanistan and Uganda being the other members.
Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj is set to play his third T20 World Cup for South Africa while Nandre Burger travels with the Proteas as a reserve. South Africa are placed in Group D along with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and the Netherlands and face Sri Lanka in their opener on June 3 in New York.
