The Rajasthan cricket team won its fourth straight match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 after crushing Meghalaya by nine wickets and climbing at the top of the group standings in Rajkot on Friday.
Electing to bat first at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, the Meghalaya cricket team was shot down for just 91 runs with Aniket Choudhary and Kamlesh Nagarkoti taking three wickets each.
It was Choudhary, however, who took the Player of the Match honours as he accounted for three of the first four wickets, which saw Meghalaya reeling at 35/4 inside the powerplay.
Rajasthan chased down the target comfortably, with Bharat Sharma’s unbeaten 28-ball 48 (6x4, 2x6) taking his team over the line in 9.1 overs.
Rajasthan now lead the Group A points table after four matches ahead of Madhya Pradesh on net run rate in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the premier domestic T20 tournament in India.
Both teams have 16 points from four matches but Rajasthan leads the NRR with +3.847 while MP have +2.705. The two will clash next on Sunday in Rajkot.
Each team will play seven matches before having a chance to head to the knockout stage. So far, the unbeaten Rajasthan have defeated Bihar, Mizoram, Hyderabad and Meghalaya. After their match against Madhya Pradesh, they will play Punjab and Bengal.
The top team from each of the five groups, along with the best-performing second-placed team, will advance directly to the quarter-finals. The other four second-placed teams will play in two preliminary quarter-finals with the winners proceeding further to round off the last-eight stage.
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 final will be held on December 15.
