Chandigarh have named medium pacer Sandeep Sharma in their 15-member squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 starting on November 23.

The Chandigarh cricket team is placed in Group D of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the premier domestic T20 tournament in India, and will kick start their campaign against Puducherry at the Dr Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

Vidarbha, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Railways and Odisha are the other teams in Group D.

Sandeep, who was retained by the Rajasthan Royals for the Indian Premier League 2025 season, was Chandigarh’s joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2023 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The medium-pacer finished the tournament with nine wickets from seven matches at an average of 25.44 and a strike rate of 16.88.

The 31-year-old Sandeep picked up 13 wickets from 10 innings in IPL 2024 with an average of 23.92 and a strike rate of 17.5.

In his two seasons with the Royals, Sandeep has become their go-to death bowler with an economy of 8.42 and a total tally of 23 wickets in the IPL.

Manan Vohra will continue to lead Chandigarh in the T20 tournament after leading the side in the first five rounds of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 campaign.

Left-arm spinner Nishunk Birla who made an impressive debut in his first-class campaign with 32 wickets from five matches in the current Ranji Trophy campaign found a place in the 15-member team.

Meanwhile, Raj Bawa, Shivam Bhambri and Arslan Khan, the top three run-getters in the initial phase of the Ranji Trophy campaign this year were also included in the Chandigarh team in the shorter format.
