The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 will start on November 23, featuring 18 first-round matches scheduled across various venues nationwide this Saturday.
Select matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 will be available to watch on live streaming and on telecast.
The 17th edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the premier domestic T20 tournament in India, will see a total of 38 teams split into five groups. Groups A, B and C will have eight teams each while Groups D and E will have seven.
In the initial phase, each team will compete against every other team in its group in a single round-robin format. The top team from each of the five groups, along with the best-performing second-placed team, will advance directly to the quarter-finals. The other four second-placed teams will play in two preliminary quarter-finals with the winners proceeding further to round off the last-eight stage.
The quarter-finals will be played at Alur and Bengaluru on December 11 while the semi-finals and the final will be hosted at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on December 13 and 15, respectively.
Sanju Samson will lead the 15-member Kerala cricket team, which is placed in Group E. Kerala, who reached the quarter-finals in the 2023 edition of the tournament, will start their latest campaign against Services in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Samson, who was retained by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025 season, has been in good form in the shorter format of the game with three centuries in his last five international innings.
After scoring a century against Bangladesh in the final T20I, the wicketkeeper-batter became the first Indian batter to hit back-to-back T20I centuries with a 50-ball 107 against South Africa in Durban.
The 30-year-old Samson completed a memorable series against the Proteas with another century in the fourth and final T20I in Johannesburg to become the first batter in international cricket to score three T20I centuries in a calendar year.
Meanwhile, Sandeep Sharma, who was the joint-highest wicket-taker for the Chandigarh cricket team in the tournament in 2023 with nine wickets from seven innings, will head the team’s bowling attack once again.
The medium-pacer, who was also retained by the Royals, also had a tally of 13 wickets from 10 innings in IPL 2024.
