Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana will spearhead the Sri Lankan cricket team’s spin attack against Australia during the upcoming two-match 2025 ODI series scheduled from February 12 and 14.
Both cricket matches of the SL vs AUS ODI series will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The games will be live streamed and telecast in India.
After suffering a 2-0 whitewash against the Aussies in the preceding Test series at home, the Sri Lankan side, led by Charith Asalanka, will be eyeing redemption in the ODI series.
The return of Hasaranga or Theekshana, neither of whom was part of the Test squad, will bolster the Lankan squad considerably for the white-ball series against the Steve Smith-led Australian side.
Both Lankan spinners were acquired by the Rajasthan Royals at the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction.
Theekshana comes into the series on the back of a stellar showing against New Zealand last month. In two away matches against the Kiwis, he managed to scalp seven wickets.
Meanwhile, Hasaranga was in fantastic form in 2024 and was named in both the T20I (T20 Internationals) and ODI (One-Day International) teams of the year.
The Lankan all-rounder also recently became the fastest bowler to reach 300 wickets in T20 cricket.
Heading into the doubleheader, Sri Lanka and Australia have faced each other in 104 head-to-head meetings. The Aussies have won 64 while the Lankans have 36 victories to their name. Four matches yielded no winners.
