Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson underwent successful surgery on his right index finger on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old Indian batter suffered the injury after being hit on his hand by a delivery, at nearly 150kmph, from Jofra Archer while batting during the fifth T20I against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 2.

Eventually, Samson had to be subbed out while batting on 16 off seven balls due to the knock.

India went on to dominate the contest, sealing a 150-run victory to wrap up the series 4-1. In Samson’s absence, his Royals and India teammate Dhruv Jurel kept wickets in the match and played an integral role in the win by taking three catches.

The Royals skipper was in fantastic form last year and etched his name in the history books by becoming the first cricketer to smash three T20I centuries in a calendar year.

He blasted a 47-ball 111 against Bangladesh in October before hammering a 50-ball 107 and an unbeaten 109 off 56 against South Africa.

In the Indian Premier League, Samson has been the heartbeat of Rajasthan Royals side since taking over as captain in 2021.

Samson led the inaugural IPL champions to the final in 2022 and the playoffs last season. He is also Rajasthan Royals’ top run-scorer in the IPL with 3934 runs from 146 matches.

The dates for the IPL 2025 season are yet to be announced.
