Rajasthan Royals’ batting coach Vikram Rathour remained optimistic following the team’s loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday.

After being put into bat first on a tricky surface, the Royals posted 173/4 in 20 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal starred with the bat with a solid 75 off 47 balls. However, RCB chased down the target in the 18th over with nine wickets to spare.

It was the Royals’ fourth loss in six matches but Rathour reinforced the team’s belief in their ability to turn things around.

“We are playing well and preparing well,” Rathour said. “This is such a tournament, which we have also seen in the past, where you can win four-five games in a row and Rajasthan Royals have done it before.”

Rathour noted that the Royals have been consistent with their effort and are not falling short in any department. He also pointed to the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket.

“You can also lose successive games but don’t put winning games in a row beyond us because we are a team that are capable of winning the remaining matches and are doing well. So, we will continue to back ourselves and we will try to win the rest of our games (this season),” he said.

“We are not lacking in any department, we are trying very hard and putting in all the effort but cricket is such a game that if a team plays better than you in this tournament on a certain date then any team is capable of defeating the other.”

Rathour also stressed that the margins in the IPL were fine and that execution on the day often makes the difference.

“It is not like any one team is playing way better than the other, so on a certain day, you can lose to any team. As I mentioned earlier, the team is good and if we can execute well then we can do well for sure,” he said.

RR captain Sanju Samson said after the match that the team was in a ‘good mindset’ despite the loss.

“We have to put this game behind us, come back fresh and be confident about the next game,” Samson said. “We need to keep these things aside and come back confidently.”

Rajasthan Royals will eye returning to winning ways in their next match when they take on Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.
