The Rajasthan cricket team will begin its Ranji Trophy 2024-25 campaign with a home game against Puducherry at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday, October 11.
Rajasthan are in Elite Group B of the Ranji Trophy, the premier domestic first-class cricket tournament in India. Apart from Puducherry, Andhra, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Hyderabad, Uttarakhand and Vidarbha are also pooled in Elite Group B.
Each team will play once against all other teams in the same group in a single round-robin format during the league phase. The top two teams from each elite group will proceed to the quarter-finals with eventual winners moving on to the semi-finals and final.
Rajasthan will play a total of seven matches, four at home and three away, in the group stage. After the opener at home, Rajasthan will then travel to Dharamsala to meet Himachal Pradesh on October 18.
Indian international Deepak Hooda will continue at the helm of the Rajasthan team for the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. He was also the captain of the side in the previous season when they finished fifth in Elite Group A.
Apart from Hooda, the Rajasthan team will also have the pace duo of Khaleel Ahmed and Deepak Chahar along with spinner Rahul Chahar, who have all played for India and possess international experience.
Rajasthan Royals’ Kunal Singh Rathore is also part of the 15-member squad, his third straight season with Rajasthan in the domestic circuit. Batter Mahipal Lomror and bowling all-rounder Manav Suthar are the other young players to watch out for in the team.
Rajasthan have won the Ranji Trophy title twice, in back-to-back seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, under the captaincy of former Indian international Hrishikesh Kanitkar.
