Tanush Kotian was named in the 16-member Mumbai team for the first two rounds of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, which starts on October 11.

The Mumbai cricket team is in Elite Group A of the Ranji Trophy and will start its campaign with an away game against Baroda at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Friday.

In the second round, Mumbai will host Maharashtra at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai from October 18. Jammu and Kashmir, Services, Meghalaya, Tripura and Odisha are the other sides in Elite Group A of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season.

Tanush Kotian, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, has been in good form heading into the current Ranji Trophy campaign, the premier domestic first-class tournament in India.

The 25-year-old Tanush was part of the India A side that won the Duleep Trophy 2024 in Anantapur last month. He picked up 10 wickets from three matches at an average of 22.00 and an impressive strike rate of 45.60. Tanush also chipped in with the bat lower down the order, scoring 121 runs in the competition.

The all-rounder followed it up with an impressive showing to help Mumbai win the Irani Cup after 27 years. Tanush scored a half-century in the first innings before slamming an unbeaten century in the second to bail out his team from a precarious position. He also picked up three wickets in the match.

Tanush also had a fantastic outing in Mumbai’s victorious Ranji Trophy campaign last season. He shone with both bat and ball, picking up 29 wickets and scoring more than 500 runs. The 25-year-old was adjudged the Player of the Series.

The experienced Ajinkya Rahane will again lead the Mumbai cricket team this season with Prithvi Shaw, Shardhul Thakur and Shreyas Iyer also making the squad.
