Rajasthan Royals have played 21 matches against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League since SRH was added as a new franchise in IPL 2013. In the RR vs SRH head-to-head record, the Royals have won nine matches whereas the Sunrisers have won 12 times.
The Royals beat the Sunrisers by eight wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur in their first meeting which dates back to April 27, 2013. Left-arm pacer James Faulkner picked up 5/20, his first five-wicket haul for the Royals, to restrict SRH to 144/9.
Shane Watson top-scored for the Royals with 98 off just 53 balls hitting 13 fours and four sixes. The Royals won the match comfortably with 13 balls to spare and Faulkner was adjudged the Player of the Match. This was also the Royals’ biggest victory over the Sunrisers.
Rajasthan Royals’ 72-run win at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad during IPL 2023 is their biggest win against the Sunrisers in terms of runs. Batting first, the Royals put 203/5 on the board with the help of half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson.
In reply, the Sunrisers could manage only 131/8 as Yuzvendra Chahal picked up four wickets conceding just 17 runs in four overs. Trent Boult picked up two wickets as well. Buttler was adjudged the Player of the Match for his whirlwind 54 off just 22 balls which included seven fours and three sixes.
The Royals notched up their highest IPL total against the Sunrisers in 2025 scoring 242/6 albeit in a losing cause at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Chasing a record 287 to win, the Royals put up a valiant fight courtesy of Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel's half-centuries but fell short in their IPL 2025 opener.
Previously, Rajasthan Royals' highest score against Sunrisers Hyderabad was 220/3 in a 55-run win at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi during IPL 2025. Player of the Match Buttler top-scored for the Royals with 124 off 64 balls, hitting eleven boundaries and eight sixes. Incidentally, this is the highest individual score by a Royals batter in the history of the IPL.
The Sunrisers’ innings ended at 165/8 as Mustafizur Rahman and Chris Morris picked up three wickets each.
James Faulkner’s 5/16 off four overs, which also included a maiden, in IPL 2013 is the best bowling performance for the Royals against SRH. Unfortunately, the Royals lost the match by 23 runs.
Interestingly, this was Faulkner’s second five-fer against SRH in a gap of 20 days after he had picked up a five-wicket haul in their first meeting in the IPL, making him the only bowler to have two five-fers for the Rajasthan Royals.
Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad have played each other four times at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur with both sides being victorious on two occasions each.
