Chasing 174, Royal Challengers Bengaluru made a strong start with openers Virat Kohli and Phil Salt finding the boundaries regularly as they powered to 65 for no loss at the end of the first six overs.

Salt continued to attack Rajasthan’s bowlers after the powerplay and brought up his fifty. He was eventually dismissed by Kumar Kartikeya, who was on the field after replacing Nitish Rana as RR’s Impact Player.

RCB’s Impact Player Devdutt Padikkal, who replaced Suyash Sharma, joined Kohli in the middle as the Royals tried to reduce the scoring rate with some tight bowling.

Smart running in between the wickets coupled with timely boundaries, however, ensured that RCB were well in touch with the asking rate.

Virat Kohli then brought up his fifty with a maximum as he completed his 100th half-century in T20 cricket while Padikkal demonstrated his wide range of shots to help RCB to a nine-wicket win.

Earlier in the day, after being asked to bat first, openers Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave Rajasthan a steady start after finishing the powerplay with 45 runs.

However, Samson departed the very next over after falling to Krunal Pandya. Riyan Parag walked in at No. 3 and stitched a 56-run partnership off 39 balls with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who also brought up his fifty off 35 balls at the start of the 13th over.

Parag's brisk stay in the middle, though, would come to an end in the next over after Yash Dayal dismissed him.

With Parag back in the dugout, Jaiswal looked to accelerate and hit a few boundaries before perishing at the end of the 16th over.

Shimron Hetmyer joined Dhruv Jurel at the crease and the duo combined to pull off a few hefty blows before the left-hander was dismissed with the penultimate ball of the innings.

Nitish Rana hit a four off the last ball as the Royals posted a total of 173/4.

Rajasthan Royals will play the Delhi Capitals next at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.
