In spite of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s blazing half-century and Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s dream debut, Rajasthan Royals suffered an agonising two-run defeat against Lucknow Super Giants in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match in Jaipur on Saturday.
Asked to field first at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the Rajasthan Royals restricted the Lucknow Super Giants to 180/5 in 20 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga, with figures of 2/31 in four overs, was the pick of the Rajasthan bowlers.
In reply, IPL’s youngest debutant Vaibhav Suryavanshi (34 off 20) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (74 off 52) put the Rajasthan Royals in a favourable position early on but LSG turned the tables in the final overs.
The loss kept the Royals on four points after eight matches and eighth on the IPL 2025 points table.

After Jofra Archer picked up Mitchell Marsh in the third over, Sandeep Sharma provided RR with the major breakthrough by dismissing IPL 2025 Orange Cap holder Nicholas Pooran for just 11.
Hasaranga then sent back LSG skipper Rishabh Pant to strengthen RR’s position.

However, while wickets tumbled at the other end, Aiden Markram kept the scoreboard ticking and found a partner in Ayush Badoni.
The duo put on a 76-run partnership before Hasaranga dismissed Markram for 66. Badoni, too, departed soon after reaching his 50.
A late surge by Abdul Samad (30 off 10), however, saw LSG reach 180. Rajasthan Royals’ chase got off to a rollicking start with Yashasvi Jaiswal setting the tone by dispatching Shardul Thakur for a boundary off the third ball.
Debutant Vaibhav Survayanshi, who was into the side as an Impact Player, wasted no time making an impression, launching a massive six over extra cover just two balls later to mark his arrival in the IPL.
The duo powered Rajasthan to 61 without loss at the end of the powerplay. Jaiswal brought up his third consecutive half-century with a single off the first ball of the ninth over, continuing his red-hot form.
However, the 85-run opening stand was broken soon after, as Survayanshi was stumped off Aiden Markram following an enterprising knock that featured two fours and three sixes.
Nitish Rana fell in the very next over but Riyan Parag, who was captaining the side in place of an injured Sanju Samson, joined Jaiswal to steady the ship and inch the Royals closer to the target.
Rajasthan Royals needed 25 to win from the last three overs. A double blow in the 18th over saw both Jaiswal and Parag walk back and made for a nervy ending.
Shimron Hetmyer’s two boundaries in the 19th over left Rajasthan Royals needing nine to win in the final over. However, the West Indian’s wicket in the third ball of the 20th bowled by Avesh Khan turned the match on its head as Rajasthan fell short by two runs in the end.
The Rajasthan Royals will play the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the next match on Thursday at the M Chinnawamy Stadium.
