Rajasthan Royals qualified for the 2024 Indian Premier League playoffs after Delhi Capitals beat Lucknow Super Giants by 19 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The Royals are currently in second place in the points table behind Kolkata Knight Riders, who were the first team to make the IPL 2024 playoffs this season. KKR have 19 points from 13 matches while RR have 16 from 12.

The DC vs LSG result means that only a maximum of four teams can now score 16 or more points this season, which includes KKR and RR. Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the other two teams.

The Royals are scheduled to play two more matches this season, both at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati, their second home venue. But the results in both matches will not be a factor to oust them from the top four.

It will be the sixth time, and the second occasion in three seasons, that the Royals will feature in the IPL playoffs. Sanju Samson and Co. had made the final in IPL 2022.

While the playoffs are secured for the Royals, the top two positions are not. The top two teams will play in Qualifier 1, the winner of which will directly make the final.

Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are both in contention for second place in the standings.

The third and fourth-placed teams will play in the Eliminator. The winner of this match will play the loser of Qualifier 1, in Qualifier 2, for a place in the final.

Thus, the winners of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 matches will play in the final on May 26.
