With the ongoing Indian Premier League season reaching its business end, the race for the IPL 2025 playoff spots is also heating up.

After a mixed start to the IPL 2025 season, Rajasthan Royals find themselves in eighth place on the points table with four points from eight matches played.

However, with six matches still left to play in the league stage, the Royals are still alive in the playoff race.

The Royals started the season with defeats to Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders and bounced back with wins over Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings in the following matches.

A string of losses from that point on, saw the Royals slide down the table. The list of defeats this season includes some close calls, particularly a disappointing Super Over defeat to Delhi Capitals and a two-run loss to Lucknow Super Giants.

How can Rajasthan Royals qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs?

With 12 potential points on offer from six games in hand, a run of positive results could see the Royals launch a strong bid for the top four.

Rajasthan Royals’ remaining fixtures in IPL 2025

  • April 24: vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru
  • April 28: vs Gujarat Titans
  • May 1: vs Mumbai Indians
  • May 4: vs Kolkata Knight Riders
  • May 12: vs Chennai Super Kings
  • May 16: vs Punjab Kings

If Rajasthan Royals win all to reach 16 points, they will still have to rely on other results and hope no more than three other teams can reach the 16-point mark. A qualification with 14 points is also possible, but it would require a favourable net run rate and plenty of help from elsewhere.

In fact, last season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru qualified for the playoffs with 14 points, thanks to their better net run rate than Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, who were all tied on 14 points.

RCB, however, are the only team to have qualified for the playoffs with 14 points since the league expanded to 10 teams in 2022.

Overall, 10 teams have qualified for the playoffs with 14 points since the league’s inception in 2008. Deccan Chargers, in 2009, and Chennai Super Kings, in 2010, went on to win the IPL trophies after qualifying for the playoffs on 14 points.

Rajasthan Royals have made it to the playoffs six times to date. They won the title in 2008 and reached the final in 2022.
