For the third time in his last four Test series, Yashasvi Jaiswal emerged as the highest run-scorer for India after finishing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 with 391 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his brilliance with a commanding century of 161 in Perth and added two half-centuries, both during the Melbourne Test. He averaged 43.44 in the series.
In fact, Travis Head and Yashasvi Jaiswal were the only two batters to average over forty in the Test series, for those who had scored at least 100 runs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, retained by the Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2025, was also the top-scorer for India in the England series early last year and later against Bangladesh.
In fact, the 22-year-old Jaiswal batted fearlessly throughout 2024, scoring 1478 runs at an average of 54.74 and a strike rate of almost 70. He hit 36 sixes in the period, a new world record for a calendar year. He was also named in Cricket Australia’s best Test team of 2024.
The left-handed batter's tally of 1478 runs in a year is the second most by an Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar’s 1562 in 2010 and the most by an Indian opener. The previous record of 1462 for the most runs by an Indian opener was set by Virender Sehwag in 2008.
Virat Kohli holds the record for the highest runs scored by an Indian in a single Border-Gavaskar Trophy edition, amassing 692 runs in the 2014-15 series. Steve Smith, however, tops the overall charts with 769 runs in the same series.
The Indian cricket team lost the fifth Test match in Sydney on Sunday by six wickets and conceded the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1. The loss also ended India's hopes of qualifying for the World Test Championship 2023-25 Final.
