Rajasthan Royals Head Coach Kumar Sangakkara revealed that he is using captain Sanju Samson’s bats to play village cricket in Dorset, England.

In a video posted on Rajasthan Royals’ social media handle, Sangakkara mentioned that he is playing with Samson’s bats since he did not have one of his own at his home in the United Kingdom.

“In my village cricket, I have two of Sanju’s bats. He was very kind to give me two of his bats,” Sangakkara said.

“Because I have no memorabilia, no bats lying around the house, nothing. So I had to start from scratch.”

The former Sri Lanka captain also had a message for the Royals leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who had promised him some cricket kits.

“Yuzi, if you are watching this, remember, you promised me some kits. I am waiting for that as well,” Sangakkara quipped.

Post his hectic coaching schedule with the Rajasthan Royals in the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2024 season, Sangakkara is unwinding by doing what he knows best. He is enjoying his free time with a stint of village cricket at his residence in Dorset, United Kingdom.

“It has been great fun, a great feeling of community playing village cricket in Dorset, where I live and it has been great fun and yeah, Sanju’s bats,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Samson did not hide his happiness and excitement as he responded to the video mentioning it was a dream come true moment for him.

“Kumar Sangakkara using my bats!! Hahaha… IT’S A DREAM!!,” Samson wrote.

Sanju Samson was part of a 15-member Indian cricket team that won the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States of America last month. He was also appointed as vice-captain when he joined the Indian squad during the subsequent tour of Zimbabwe.

Samson signed off the Zimbabwe T20 series in style scoring his second T20I fifty to help the team win the series 4-1.
