Jos Buttler has been a consistent performer for Rajasthan Royals ever since he signed for the team before the Indian Premier League 2018 season.

Before joining the Royals, Buttler represented Mumbai Indians in the 2016 and 2017 seasons and while he fared decently with them, it was after joining the Royals that the Englishman truly hit his stride in the IPL.

Currently, Buttler has seven centuries in the IPL which puts him as the foreign player with the most number of tons in the competition. Only Virat Kohli has more hundreds.

Interestingly, all seven of Buttler’s IPL centuries have come in Rajasthan colours. His highest score for Mumbai, meanwhile, stands at 77.

The right-handed batter made his debut for the Royals against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2018. Buttler’s first season with the Royals saw him score 548 runs at an average of 54.80 and strike rate of 155.24. The tally included five half-centuries.

Buttler scored his first IPL century, a 64-ball 124, against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Delhi in the 2021. Incidentally, this is Buttler’s highest score in the IPL.

In 2022, the Englishman went on a scoring spree, notching up four hundreds and as many fifties for his tally of 863 runs that won him the Orange Cap, awarded to the leading run-scorer in IPL each season. He averaged 57.53 from 17 matches that season scoring runs at a healthy strike rate of 149.05, taking the Royals to their first final after the inaugural edition in 2008.

Here are Buttler’s top knocks in the IPL.

124 off 64 balls vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, IPL 2021

Jos Buttler’s highest score in the IPL came when the Royals faced Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi in 2021. He scored 124 off 64 balls at an unbelievable strike rate of 193.75. This was also his first century in the IPL.

Opening the batting for the Royals, Buttler hit 11 boundaries and eight maximums en route to his final score. He put together 150 for the second wicket with Sanju Samson to power the Royals to 220/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

SRH could not match Buttler’s onslaught as they succumbed for 165/8, losing the game by 55 runs. Butter was rightly adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant knock.

116 off 65 balls vs Delhi Capitals, IPL 2022

During the match against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in IPL 2022, Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal stitched an opening partnership of 155 off just 91 balls to give the Royals a great start against the Capitals.

Buttler was dismissed in the 19th over but not before scoring 116 off 65 balls at a strike rate of 178.46. He hit nine fours and nine sixes as he raked in 90 runs from boundaries alone.

The Royals made 222/2, one of RR’s highest scores in the IPL, on the back of Buttler’s Player of the Match-winning knock and secured a 15-run win in the match.

107* off 60 balls vs Kolkata Knight Riders, IPL 2024

Buttler notched up his seventh IPL hundred against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata during IPL 2024. This was his third unbeaten century in a successful run-chase for the Royals as they snatched a two-wicket victory off the last ball.

Player of the Match Buttler scored an unbeaten 107 off just 60 balls, to help the Royals equal the highest successful run-chase in the IPL. His knock, laden with nine fours and six sixes, came at a strike rate of 178.33 and anchored the Royals to their second-highest aggregate in the history of the IPL.

Buttler was well-supported by Rovman Powell who scored 26 off 13 balls, as they put together 57 runs for the seventh wicket in quick time. Buttler switched gears towards the end of the chase as he amassed 65 off 27 balls in the last six overs at an astonishing strike rate of 240.74, to see the Royals through.

106* off 60 balls vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, IPL 2022

Jos Buttler scored the last of his four centuries in IPL 2022 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

After restricting RCB to 157/8, Buttler helmed the Royals’ chase with an unbeaten 106 off 60 balls, scored at a strike rate of 176.66. He added 61 runs for the first wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal in just five overs to set the tone.

The Englishman also put on a 52-run stand with Sanju Samson to take the Royals close to the target. His unbeaten knock was adorned with 10 fours and six sixes as he guided the Royals to a comfortable seven-wicket victory with 11 balls to spare.

Buttler was chosen the Player of the Match for guiding the Royals to their first final in 14 years.

It was one of Buttler’s two centuries against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with the other coming in a home win in IPL 2024. The Englishman also scored a century against his former team Mumbai Indians in 2022.
