Dhruv Jurel and Prasidh Krishna have been named in the Rest of India team that will play Mumbai, which will have Tanush Kotian in their ranks, in the Irani Cup 2024, which starts on October 1.

The Irani Cup is an annual five-day match between the Ranji Trophy champions of the preceding season and the Rest of India (RoI) team.

Mumbai, having won the Ranji Trophy title in the 2023-24 season, will play Rest of India in the 62nd edition of the tournament from October 1 to 5 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Jurel is currently part of the Indian cricket team that is playing Bangladesh and his availability for the Rest of India vs Mumbai Irani Cup is subject to his inclusion in the second Test in Kanpur from September 27.

Jurel, who represents the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, made his Test debut against England earlier in February this year. He had an impressive debut series with a tally of 190 runs from three matches at an average of 63.33.

Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna, another Royals player, returned to first-class cricket in the Duleep Trophy after a long lay-off due to injury. Prasidh picked up four wickets from two games for India A, who were eventually crowned champions.

Tanush Kotian played a stellar role in Mumbai’s victorious Ranji Trophy campaign last season. The all-rounder shone with both bat and ball to help Mumbai lift their 42nd domestic title and also won the Player of the Series award.

Kotian had a tally of 29 wickets from 10 matches at an average of 16.96 and a strike rate of 34.96. He also accumulated 502 runs from 14 innings, including a century and five fifties, at an impressive average of 41.83.

More recently, Tanush had a good outing in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy campaign picking up 10 wickets and scoring 121 runs from three matches for champions India A.

Ajinkya Rahane will helm the Mumbai team whereas Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead the Rest of India side in the Irani Cup 2024.
