Royals wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel has earned his maiden India call-up, as the BCCI announced a 16-member Team India squad for the first two Tests against England on late Friday evening.

Dhruv, who played his maiden IPL season with Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023, features alongside Royals teammates Yashasvi Jaiswal, R Ashwin and Avesh Khan. The 22-year-old from Agra came into the Royals' Playing XI as an 'Impact Substitute' in one of the matches, and impressed with his aggressive style of batting, later earning a place in the first-choice side. His impressive performance led to his selection for the Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Subsequently, he journeyed with the India A squad to South Africa, where he took on the role of wicketkeeper during the second unofficial Test. Jurel is also part of the Indian contingent set to compete against the England Lions in an upcoming multi-day match in Ahmedabad, beginning on January 17. The Royals batter has already played in 15 first-class matches and boasts a batting average of 46.47.

The Rohit Sharma-led team is set to play England in a five-Test series starting January 25 in Hyderabad.
