Ravichandran Ashwin has retained the top spot in Test bowling in the ICC rankings while Keshav Maharaj continued to be the No. 1 bowler in ODIs as per the latest list on September 24.

Ashwin had an excellent outing with both bat and ball in the recently-concluded India vs Bangladesh Test in Chennai which the hosts won by 280 runs.

Ashwin picked up a six-wicket haul in the second innings to go with his century in the first innings of the first Test and was adjudged the Player of the Match.

For a second consecutive game on his home turf, the all-rounder recorded a unique double of scoring a hundred and picking up five wickets in the same game.

Ashwin, who plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, has been in excellent form in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. He has picked up 48 wickets from just nine matches at an average of 21.41 and an impressive strike rate of 37.43.

The off-spinner is just four wickets short of going past Josh Hazlewood, who is on top of the wicket charts in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.

Meanwhile, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah held on to the second spot in the list with spinner Ravindra Jadeja the other Indian in the top 10 at sixth.

The Jadeja-Ashwin combination, which saved India from a batting crisis with a 199-run partnership in the first Test against Bangladesh, cemented their status as the top-ranked all-rounders yet again.

Jadeja and Ashwin are first and second in ICC rankings for Test all-rounders with Axar Patel in sixth. The two Indians are the only pair to have scored 1000 runs and picked up 100 wickets in the history of the WTC so far.

In ODIs, Keshav Maharaj continued to be on top of the bowlers’ list in the ICC rankings. Maharaj had a good ODI World Cup campaign in 2023 in India where he picked up 15 wickets from 10 matches at an average of 24.66 and a strike rate of 35.60.

The left-arm spinner was the third-highest wicket taker for South Africa in the World Cup and his exploits helped the team reach the semi-finals and took him to the top spot in the ICC ODI bowlers’ list.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, meanwhile, also improved his rankings from sixth to fifth in the Test batters’ list after his well-made half-century in the first innings of the Chennai Test. The southpaw is just 66 runs short of becoming the highest-scoring Indian batter in a single window of the World Test Championship.

Jaiswal also held on to his fourth place in the T20I batters list while Jos Buttler is at seventh spot.
