Keshav Maharaj is in line to claim his second ICC Player of the Month award after he was nominated by the International Cricket Council for August 2024.

Maharaj, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, was chosen as one of the nominees for his impressive performances with the ball on South Africa’s tour of the West Indies last month.

The left-arm spinner finished as the highest wicket-taker in the two-Test series with a tally of 13 wickets at an average of 16.07 and an impressive strike rate of 38.46. He guided South Africa cricket team to a 1-0 series win and was also adjudged the Player of the Series.

Maharaj took four-wicket hauls in both innings, 4/76 and 4/88, in the first Test as persistent rains forced the match to end in a draw. He won the Player of the Match award for his match haul of 8/164.

Maharaj continued his good form in the second Test picking up five wickets and spinning South Africa to a series-winning win against the home side. During the second Test, he also went past Hugh Tayfield’s tally of 170 wickets to become the spinner with the most Test wickets for South Africa.

The 34-year-old Maharaj has a total of 171 wickets from 52 Test matches for the Proteas.

West Indies pacer Jayden Seales and Sri Lanka all-rounder Dunith Wellalage are the other nominees shortlisted by the ICC for the Player of the Month for August 2024.
