Dhruv Jurel equalled a long-standing MS Dhoni record for most catches in an innings by a wicket-keeper in the Duleep Trophy at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Dhruv Jurel, representing India A in the Duleep Trophy 2024-25, did not get going with the bat but recorded seven catches in the second innings against India B.

The 23-year-old Jurel was involved in the dismissals of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Nitish K Reddy, Sai Kishore, and Navdeep Saini.

Jurel’s effort helped India A restrict India B to 184 runs in the second innings. Courtesy of the 90-run lead they took in the first innings, India B set a target of 275 for India A.

MS Dhoni established the previous record during the Duleep Trophy 2004-05. Representing the East Zone, Dhoni took seven catches in an innings against Central Zone.

Dhoni’s effort broke a three-decade-long record held by Sunil Benjamin, who picked up six catches playing for Central Zone during the Duleep Trophy final in 1973.

However, Sunil Benjamin also inflicted a stumping back then, taking his dismissals to seven. Jurel, Dhoni and Benjamin currently hold the record for most dismissals inflicted by a keeper in one innings of the Duleep Trophy.

This is the second record that fell during the ongoing Duleep Trophy. Earlier in the match, Musheer Khan and Navdeep Saini were involved in a record eighth-wicket partnership of 205 runs. It eclipsed the previous mark set in 2010.
